A Lawyer's Life
Published in Paperback by Griffin Trade Paperback (November, 2003)
Authors: David Fisher and Johnnie Cochran
Average review score:

A MUST for White Republicans.
...And I know you well, because I am a Black Republican - far to the Right - libertarian even. This book is not the typical liberal drivel from a neck bone-eatin' preacher. This is a good treatise on recent Black history, and an expose' on the justice system - in my view, the last vestige of true racism.

While I had to hold my nose in reading the very last chapter of the book (where he goes liberal), I could not refute the notion that that I was reading the words of a "wise old man." Such an opportunity should not be ignored, regardless of your race or political persuasion. If you can read this extremely pleasurable book, and still not at least understand the pov of the other side, then you truly don't have a heart.

It is enjoyable reading, unoffensive to all, and a good lesson on life in America from one of its premier insiders. Further, it advances the cause of racial harmony.

BUY THIS BOOK. You won't regret it.

A FOOT SOLDIER FOR JUSTICE
I FOUND THIS BOOK VERY HARD TO PUT DOWN. MR. COCHRAN LET US SEE THROUGH THIS BOOK THAT HE IS NOT JUST A BIG MONEY LAWYER FOR THE STARS, BUT A TRUE CHAMPION FOR JUSTICE FOR THE POOR AND OPPRESSED. THROUGH HIS MANY CIVIL SUITS AGAINST CORRUPT COPS AND BIG CORPORATIONS HE HAS CREATED A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL OF US.

Life Changing - Mind Boggling!
I read this book in a short period of time, due the fact that it was so interesting, and more importantly, I was so saddened by the REAL justice system in the United States. I was amazed and disgraced that racial injustices such as those described in this book have remained steady as if it were still the 1950s and 60s. I hope and pray that some day we as a people indeed "WILL OVERCOME."

I applaud Mr. Cochran for standing up for what is right for African Americans in the face of his many critics. I say "keep on keeping on, Johnnie." From the infamous Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have A Dream Speech," "And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back..." This quote may help those who are victims of racial discrimination and is a quote I refer to when times are tough.

This book has only solidified my desire to enter into the field of Law. I can only hope that I make half the progress towards achieving equality and leveling the scales of justice for my people as Mr. Cochran has.

A Natural History of the Sonoran Desert

Average review score:

Scholarly
Subjects are thoroughly covered and the information is written in an friendly and interesting manner. If you have a question about the Sonoran Desert, you will most likely find the answer here. Among other surprises, this book offered my first look at the "creeping devil cactus" - how interesting! I'd never even heard of it before. "A Natural History of the Sonoran Desert" is a book you will turn to for detailed information that can be trusted as well as entertainment. Very nice photographs and illustrations. A great book for a nature lover, even if the Sonoran Desert holds no particular interest to them.

Armchair nature watching
This is the ideal book to take along on trips to the Sonora Desert. Whether it is the Cailfornian , including Baja, Arizonian(it actually covers five states) or Mexican portions of the vast and diverse Sonara Desert, the details and complexities of this eco system are truly amazing. This book is an indespensible guide to all facets of this immense gift, including the many plants and animals that inhabit this harsh yet bountiful environment. It is a book to read before, as well as after the trips to the desert. Since it is so diverse and vast , covering some 100, 000 sq.mi., the amount of information given is quite a bit but done in such a mannner that one can easily navigate the text to the desired area of interest Inevitably one will stray into an area of new found interest. The little known facts are a lay persons path to knowledge about what the heck they just saw or are about to see. The black and white illustrations for the plants and animals you will or did encounter are excellent and extremely helpful for identification. There is a section with color photographs as well to further illustrate the beauty of the Sonora Desert. With contributions by some thirty five different experts in their pespective field this book is the ultimate guide. Do not hesitate to buy this book if you are visting the Sonora Desert as it will prove to be a valuble reference tool that can be used over and over. Since there is so much to learn about the Sonora Desert and it's inhabitants, this book can be read anytime, anywhere since it is nearly impossible to experience it all. Recommended for the tourist, naturalist or anyone interested in learning more about the 2000 species of plants, 550 species of verbrates and thousands of unknown invertebrate species who make the Sonora Desert home. This is truly fascinating material that only nature can provide so don't hesitate to purchase this book.

Tales from the Crypt
Published in Hardcover by Russ Cochran (June, 1979)
Author: Russ Cochran
Average review score:

This set is great!
Let me start by giving a short description of the set, since Amazon lacks any for this item. The set is very large and heavy, the box sleeve about 10" wide, 13" tall, and 5" deep. The 5 books are all hard cover and contain 5 comics, which each have a few stories. There are also some inserted pages inbetween, with odd little one page stories and such. The stories start off with obscure deaths and people killing people and then wander more into the supernatural later in the series. The artwork also gets more detailed and stylistic. The comics are black and white, except the full color front page of each comic, just as they were in the 50s. I recommend this set to anyone who liked Tales from the Crypt, or who even just likes cool creepy stories. The set looks beautiful, one of those you'd like to show to friends. Flipping through the pages staring at the art or reading the stories late at night, I say it was worth every penny.

YES!!!
This is it. Miles ahead of the mixed-bag television show, mediocre "Demon Knight," and god-awful "Bordello of Blood," these dementedly funny tales of violence and depravity ruled the comic book industry in the early 1950s until they were banned by the government in 1955. Vampires, werewolves, and mummies were not an uncommon sight in this magazine, but it was best known for vengeful walking corpses, live burials, and sadistic concepts. It was a very innovative and original publication, inventing and perfecting the horror-comedy genre later seen in movies such as "An American Werewolf in London." Story plots include:

-A living voodoo doll menaces a man who left his partner to suffer at the hands of a Haitian cult (remember, this was almost 50 years before "Child's Play")

-A practical joker accidentally causes his doctor's family to tradgecally die, only to be unwittingly given capsules with barbed hooks and tickled to death so he'll "die laughing"

-A murderer tries to evade prosecution by making his victim a human missile and "bombing" him right on the little square where Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado meet so the states will argue over who should prosecute him

-Plenty of great vampire stories, including one about a restraunt full of vampires, a vampire who fools a victim because of different time zones, and the unforgettable taxi cab nightmare, "Fare Tonight, Followed by Increasing Clottyness"

Read it from the beginning and you'll see that the style of this comic got more and more bizarre until it was perfected. Great artwork and a sense of harsh justice are another advantage here. You can't call yourself a horror fan and not read "Tales from the Crypt." It's just too entertaining (not to mention influencial) to miss. If you like this comic, then I'd suggest you also checkout its sister publications (also by the legendary publisher EC) "The Vault of Horror" and "The Haunt of Fear."

A truly wonderful set
Russ Cochran's glorious tribute to EC Comics' most famous horror title, this set of 5 coffee-table-sized (they're BIG!) books is WELL worth the cost. The books are absolutely beautiful and are extremely well-constructed. Part of the complete EC Library series (actually 11 sets, several of which are now, sadly, now out-of-print), they make fascinating reading and perusing. And the books aren't just reprints of the original comic books: The comics are interspersed with great historical info, quotes, interview segments, etc. from EC scholars and from the original EC artists and editors. My only caveat: EC is addictive. Once you get this set, you'll probably want Vault of Horror, Haunt of Fear, Weird Science, etc., etc.. You will need room in your home to accomodate all this wonderful stuff (they're BIG!). Plan ahead - you may need a larger home!

Customer Satisfaction: Tools, Techniques and Formulas for Success
Published in Paperback by Paton Pr (24 January, 2003)
Author: Craig Cochran
Average review score:

Definitely worth getting
There were three things I really liked about this book: 1) Every page had something of value on it. There's no filler. I never found myself turning a page and asking, 'what the heck did I just read?' 2) The customer satisfaction concepts were presented in the most simple manner possible. Anybody at any level of a company can understand and use the book. Right now, my V.P. of Operations and one of my 18 year old co-op students are reading it, and they're both getting some good ideas. 3) The book includes a wide range of tools, along with instructions on how to use and how not to use each one.

In summary, this is a good, practical book you can start using before you're even done reading it.

A very practical guide to improving customer satisfaction
If you're looking for a bunch of heavy, theoretical philosophizing on customer satisfaction, then you'll hate this book. If you're looking for practical, common-sense methods for understanding what customers think and doing something about it, then you'll love it. I found this book to be the most clear and concise guide yet for actually doing something to improve customer satisfaction. My company has already begun using two of the methods, with very good results. Highly recommended.

Heart & Soul Resumes: 7 Never-Before-Published Secrets to Capturing Heart & Soul in Your Resume
Published in Paperback by Consulting Psychologists Press (April, 1998)
Authors: Chuck Cochran and Donna Peerce
Average review score:

This book is a MUST for anyone who wants a great resume/job!
I absolutely LOVED this book. It's perfect for anyone who wants a good resume and help in finding a great job. This book is NOT just a resume book, but rather a great resource book that will inspire and motivate you. It really helped me and I can't wait to read more Heart & Soul career books. I understand they're coming out with more including one on the Internet.

Excellent! I Can't Believe a Resume Book Could Be So Good!
The content was professionally written in a very pleasant and interesting way. It basically explores the human side of your career and of writing your resume; and, avoids the tedius clinical text that I've seen in the other resume books.

It's not really all about resumes either. It really helped me focus in on my own marketability.

This is definitely not your every day run-of-the-mill resume book. I truly believe it has changed my life and how I look at my profession.

I would highly recommend it to anyone in career transition!

What a cute story!
My 3 1/2 year old son loves this book! He wants to read it every night. It is so cute and funny! It is a true story about a litter of puppies (especially one in particular - Mary Margaret) and their adventures. It uses repetition that kids love so much and also teaches the days of the week. The illustrations are great too! A bonus of this book is that all the author's proceeds go to a charity!

There is a second book comming out soon about Mary Margaret's adventures in her new home. I can hardly wait!

A must have for any dog lovers with children - toddlers to kindergarten or older!!!

It's cute!
A childrens story about a litter of Scotty puppies and their antics. Plenty of opportunities to discuss the illustrations to your young reader. It's fun!

Mr. Cochran has another hit to his credit. I'm definately going to get ALL of his books. He really gets into the mind of labs and their owners with this one. I'm on labs #13 and #14 now, and they're as memorable as my first. I've bought several of these for friends, and they've loved them too. Bravo Cochran!

Lab Lovers
If you have a lab, you will love this little book. It made me laugh, totally the typical traits of lovable, wonderful labs.

Grandmaster
Published in Paperback by Pinnacle Books (October, 1984)
Authors: Warren Murphy and Molly Cochran
Average review score:

A great read - Monks meet Sinanju
If you like the Destroyer series, you'll like this book. It has nothing to do with the series, but the hero has many of the characteristics of Remo in the Sinanju saga. Chess playing Yin vs Russian spy Yang. Mystery, twisted plots, and more. Great read.

One of my favorites!
Get this book and read it! Good vs Evil at its best. I have lost this book a long time ago and I keep checking on amazon to see if its back in stock. I have no problem recomending this book to anyone!

DAVE'S RAVES
I THINK IT IS ONLY FAIR THAT I START BY SAYING THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST BOOKS OF IT'S PARTICULAR GENRE. IT IMPARTS A FEELING OF FANTASY FORM ALONG WITH A MODERN-DAY COUNTER ESPIONAGE PLOT. THE WHOLE BOOK REVOLVES AROUND THE ENMITY FORMED BETWEEN A YOUNG CHESS GENIUS AND HIS LIFE-LONG NEMESIS. HIS RUSSIAN COUNTERPART IS A LITTLE STEREOTYPICAL, BUT THE GRANDMASTER HIMSELF IS ANYHING BUT. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT LIKE THE THOUGHT OF BEING ABLE TO CONTROL YOUR BODY AND MIND IN A WAY THAT WOULD ALLOW YOU TO PERFORM SUPER-HUMAN FEATS, THEN LOOK NO FURTHER. THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL! THE ONLY PROBLEM I SEE A READER HAVING WITH THIS BOOK WOULD BE A NEED TO RE-READ IT ON A REGULAR BASIS, SO GET YOUR COPY NOW, BEFORE IT'S GONE FOREVER.

Sylvia And The Magic Power Sticks
Published in Paperback by Balboa Pub Co (22 November, 2000)
Author: Margaret A. Cochran
Average review score:

written for children, intended for adults
Ms Cochran has succeeded in gently blindsiding the unsuspecting adult reader who thinks he/she is reading a modern day fairy tale to the little ones. Subtle and not so subtle messages abound about what we say and what we model to our children. With thoughtful reflection, this book can be a springboard for meaningful discussions with our children...and something to think about while caught in traffic. The illustrations are superb and the writing style entertaining. Several copies sit in my pediatric waiting room.

An Undiscovered Gem
This is an undiscovered gem! I read this book with my daughters and we all found something different to enjoy, whether it be the story, the pictures, the message or the cast of characters. This book has sparked conversation on our family and style of parenting, we keep going back to look at it again. By the way, my daughters are 20 and 22 and wondering what sort of parents they may be.

A book to read again and again
As a physician I have often wished that Human Beings came with 'service manuals' - instructions for optimal care and feeding of the soul. Sylvia is the ticket. Read it and read it again. Share it with the Human Being you love!
